Active Minds is a national mental health organization that raises awareness to break down the stigmas surrounding mental health. After several tragic events took place on UGA’s campus, we recognized that there was a need to bring mental health resources directly to the students by students. As a result, along with 4 other ambitious students, we brought Active Minds back to UGA’s campus.
I served as the Vice President of Marketing, but I also took on many additional roles beyond marketing while we worked to get the club up and running. I worked to create our Instagram account and ensure that students and faculty knew about Active Minds and our mission. Through curated content and consistent posting, I successfully grew our Instagram following to above 350 within the first year. I also ensured that flyers, user-generated content, and event marketing materials were properly executed and continued to bring awareness to our efforts.
I took on many roles beyond my role in marketing since we were working to get Active Minds started. Some of the additional roles I took on included attending meetings with local businesses to discuss potential partnership opportunities, planning and executing events, and setting up creative fundraising events. Our efforts to help the Athens community did not go unnoticed, as we were able to gain support from many local organizations. As a result of our early success, we were given a generous donation and recognized by Georgia Power during the mental health awareness football game in Sanford Stadium. Together, we were able to host several events that brought students and faculty together to help break down the barriers surrounding conversations about mental health.
